New Windows 11 Teams Chat Now Available

Windows 11 Teams Chat feature is now available on Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22000.100. With this new feature, you can connect to friends and family across any device with Microsoft Teams.

The insider build is for people who are interested to test out the new Windows 11 features. If you are planning to start using Windows 11 insider build, I have a post on how to download and install Windows 11 preview.

The new Windows 11 teams chat feature will be rolled out to all Windows 11 insiders, but in stages. So if you are running Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22000.100, and you don’t see Teams chat icon, don’t worry, you will get the update soon.

On my new Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22000.100, it took some time for Teams chat to appear on the task bar. I also noticed that along with Teams chat, Microsoft Teams Preview was also installed on my laptop.

Note – The Windows 11 teams chat feature is not fully rolled out yet. Hence, you may not see all the features that you normally see with Teams application. You can expect more new features in upcoming updates. This will include individual and group audio and video calls and meetings, presence and status settings, screen sharing, and others.

Launch Teams Chat on Windows 11

The chat icon appears on the Windows 11 taskbar, and you can launch it by clicking the Chat icon. For the first time, you need to sign in with your Microsoft account. If you provide permissions to sync your outlook contacts, the list will be added to the chat window.

Here are the complete steps to launch the Teams chat on Windows 11.

  1. First click the Chat icon on taskbar to launch the Teams chat.
  2. Sign-in with your Microsoft account. If you have an already signed in with Microsoft account on your laptop, you don’t need to log in again.
  3. Check the box to sync your Skype and Outlook contacts. This is optional step however if you want to sync the contact from Skype and Outlook to Teams, you can do it.
  4. Start a new chat by typing a name or phone number.
  5. You can create a group chat, add your contacts and begin the chat.

Some of the new features that you will notice with Microsoft Team chat are as follows.

  • Notifications with inline replies – When your colleague contacts you, you’ll receive beautiful, native notifications, and you can respond directly inline to text chats.
  • Accept or Decline Calls from Notifications – You can accept or decline calls directly from the notifications and decide whether you want to pick up as audio-only or with video, too.
  • Sync existing contacts automatically – You can sync your outlook and even phone contacts to Teams.
  • Chat with your contacts – You can chat with your contacts by typing their name or phone number. If an invited person doesn’t have teams installed, an invitation will surely go. You can also create a group, add your contacts and begin a group chat.
